FarSounder to Receive Tibbetts Award for Innovative and Outstanding Contribution to SBIR Program

WASHINGTON, DC – FarSounder has been selected to be honored with the 2015 Tibbetts Award for Innovative and Outstanding Contribution to the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. The Tibbetts Award is presented by the US Small Business Administration to honor those companies, supporting organizations, and individuals who exemplify the best in the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs and to recognize their achievements. FarSounder is one of only 32 entities receiving this prestigious award.

The 2015 Tibbetts Award recipients will be presented with their awards in Washington, DC, on June 15 at a White House ceremony. Tibbetts Award winners will also be recognized at the June 16 kickoff of the National SBIR/STTR Conference where thousands of the best and brightest in the innovation community convene annually.

“We are pleased to see that the federal government has recognized how unique and how important our technology is,” commented Cheryl M. Zimmerman, Chief Executive Officer, “Forward Looking Sonar is an important tool for 21st Century by providing ship operators what is under the water in front of them – before they run aground as well as offering protection from underwater threats.”

FarSounder is the recognized leader in real time 3D sonar systems and has been selling its flagship navigation and obstacle avoidance systems since 2004. With SBIR Phase I and II contracts from the Department of Homeland Security, FarSounder was able to accelerate the development schedule of its breakthrough technology. This helped propel FarSounder’s technology into the realms of shipboard protection and security systems.

Exports represent 85% of product sales, and FarSounder products can be found installed on all sorts of ships to help them avoid underwater dangers. The opportunities offered via the SBIR program to advance FarSounder’s technology has helped the company stay competitive in a global marketplace.
